Juliana Hilton
Juliana Hilton is a Fine Art graduate from Caulfield, Melbourne and Prahran Colleges. Painter and printmaker, her vibrant oils on canvas and bold linocut prints have a distinct semi-abstract style full of colour and intrigue. She has always created images from her immediate environment – the landscapes drawn from images of the central Victorian goldfields, studio interiors and still life, which often include found objects, art materials, works in progress, and views through windows or reflected in mirrors.
Juliana’s first solo show was in 1967 with Leveson Street Gallery, Melbourne, and in 2010 she had her 70th Birthday Exhibition show ‘The Diggings’ at the Castlemaine Art Gallery. Juliana moved to Maldon in 1964, one of a few fellow art students and the earliest artists to settle the district which led to an arts and crafts movement that gave the region its arts reputation. She regularly opens her Castlemaine Studio during the State Festival and ArtsOpen, and is represented widely in private and public collections.
