Julie Hocking

Julie is an Australian artist living on the Mornington Peninsula in Southern Victoria. After a background in art education and a career in the design and manufacture of fashion knitwear, she returned to her passion of painting.

Julie has exhibited in a number of group shows and been a finalist in SBS Landscape Prize in 2019 and 2020. Earlier this year she had her first solo exhibition ‘Life In Bloom’ at CSC Gallery in Flinders.

Inspired by her natural surroundings and working from life her work is contemporary in style, expressive, painterly and textural. Light and colour ever paramount.

Julie’s use of thick oil paint , vibrant colours and bold brush strokes have become a signature of her work. Appreciating the simple, natural beauty of nature she tries to capture a feeling of joy and calm in quiet spaces where one can pause, take a breath and exhale.
