Katherine Seppings, born in Williamstown in 1959, is an artist, writer, poet, historian, photographer, editor and publisher (Sevenpens), who has worked in publishing since the 1970s in Australia, London and New York. Her work appears mainly in nonfiction books. Katherine’s writing and photography intimately explores the many countries she has travelled and lived in, specialising in documenting the built and natural environment, the central Victorian goldfields, local and family history, social justice, events, music, dance, and bushfire. Relational Geography describes Katherine’s constant mapping of the way in which people relate and connect to their environment.

Katherine moved to Castlemaine in 1983 and had her first solo photographic exhibition, Women of Castlemaine, at Buda, 1985. In 1986, her Characters of Castlemaine photographic exhibition received nationwide acclaim. She was the main photographer, and writer of ‘Small Towns & Villages’, for The Travellers Guide to the Goldfields (2006), and one of her poetry collections is titled Love & Death in Castlemaine (2016). She is currently archiving and writing The History of Castlemaine Arts (1960-90). Katherine curated the Brickworks Gallery, Castlemaine Historical Show (2021).
