1946-2021

Born in Murray Bridge, South Australia, Vicky Taylor was always an artist, drawing figures since she was a child. Her love of printmaking began in the mid-60s during a Diploma in Teaching Art, SA. She taught art at various schools and colleges in SA and Melbourne.

Vicky moved to France in 1977 where she developed her printmaking techniques – her time at the Atelier de la Main d’or was a major influence. She exhibited in two group shows in Paris. Back in Melbourne, in the early 80s, she became a tutor in printmaking at the CAE.

In 1983, Vicky married artist Paul Cavell and they set up the Wahroonga Print workshop and studio in Fitzroy with classes in etching and facilities for printmakers. They moved to Castlemaine in 1985. Vicky exhibited in many shows around Australia, including solo shows at the Wiregrass Gallery, Eltham, and Wallace Bros Gallery, Castlemaine. In 1989 she received the Print & Drawing Show Award at Swan Hill Regional Gallery of Contemporary Art. Her print works are a unique combination of etching, aquatint, and linocut. Her striking and colourful print subjects are mainly women.
