Jess Jarvie

Melbourne artist, Jess Jarvie lives and works from her home in the Bend of Islands and is a regular participant in the Nillumbik artist open studio program. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts Painting (2001) and a Diploma of Education (2005) her love of painting has been a weekly discipline both vocationally and professionally.

Working predominately in watercolour and taking her inspiration from the natural world, Jess paints intimate portraits of ‘found and collected’ Indigenous flora.

Jess’s intricate exploration of space and composition along with her use of strong shadow come together to inform her unique perspective on her botanical subjects, while also creating an emotional content that conjures up states of tension, rest and contemplation.  As such her painting are portraits, each subject precious and individual.
